Michigan Thunder FC and WHUIA look to complete and create a club DNA-based off the West Ham way and it's prestigious academy which has produced world class players like Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, and Michael Carrick. This will give players a great opportunity to be exposed to a high-level development philosophy similar to that from a category 1 academy.
This opportunity also presents another pathway for the players of Michigan Thunder FC along with our recently established College Pathway Program and FC Barcelona partnership.
The partnership will also allow Michigan Thunder the opportunity to take teams to England to train and play at the West Ham United's training facility, as well as the opportunity to watch the first team play an English Premier League game live.
Director of Coaching Ashley Wormall had this to say: "I am very pleased with the continued development of our club and the partnership we have developed with West Ham United. As an Englishman I have grown up watching West Ham during their time in the Premier League and championship, constantly producing great players through their academy set up like Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, and Michael Carrick. It's an incredible opportunity to partner with an organization with such a storied history of developing young players and to help us achieve similar feat with players at the club. This partnership will also give our players the opportunity to align and connect with a professional team, developing a fan base for the club here in Michigan knowing they are part of the West Ham United family."
